MusicMarauders Five Year Anniversary feat. Jen Hartswick Super Jam 2.13 & 2.14.15

The 1up - Colfax Denver, CO Words By J. Picard Photos By Derek Miles ( Miles Photography ) & Jim Mimna ( J. Mimna Photography ) The weekend of a previous Super Jam wrapped up and as I stood satisfied with the result of yet another mixed group of musicians, I decided to select one and approach that person with the opportunity of hosting their own weekend at The 1up - Colfax. I walked up nervously to where Jen Hartswick sat on a couch in the green room. She was engaged in a conversation with a mutual friend, Abby Radbill, when I collected myself and presented Jen with the idea. She seemed receptive to the idea, but also very calm. The following day I received a phone call from Abby expressing how excited Jen was with the thought of hosting her own Super Jam! A short time later we connected via e-mail and the conversation began about who to include. For some reason, whether availability or conceptually, the line-up took a lot longer than some of our other Super Jams to asse

moe. 2.7.15

The Ogden Theatre Denver, CO Words & Photos By Nicholas Stock ( Fat Guerilla Productions ) Audio By Taper Corey ( Kind Recordings ) After two amazing nights of music, moe. rounded out their run in Denver with a final show at The Ogden on Saturday. The unseasonably warm weather held out through the day and fans came ready for one more trip on the merry-go-round. After the sparks flew on Friday, we were in for a more relaxed adventure this time. moe. is continuing their celebration of twenty-five years as a touring band. They seem to be pushing the boundaries musically and welcoming back the things that made them memorable in the first place. Deep jams, fascinating song selections, stellar communication, and impressive musicianship were all on display at The Ogden Theater. Word of the incredible show on Friday must have spread because by the time we arrived Saturday, it was already sold out. On this particular night, their song choices leaned towards the lighter side of their

Dave Watts Superjam 1.23 - 1.24.15

The 1up - Colfax Denver, CO Words & photos By Brad Yeakel ( Opti Mystic Outlooks ) Friday and Saturday at The 1up showcased many of Denver's musicians. Kicking things off were Denver Afrobeat collective, ATOMGA. I had been hearing about these kids for quite some time, and was already a fan of sax-master Leah Concialdi. They didn't disappoint. The band, which looked more like an army of vibrant color and rhythm delivered the unyielding energy and joy that Afrobeat demands. All the players were proficient and I was amazed that they were able to rein in the sound to a comfortable level with so many members. Saturday's openers, the Chicago Afrobeat Project, were very similar stylistically, but with a slightly more refined sound. Their chops were mighty and their sound full. They were dynamic, expressive, exciting and tighter than yoga pants. The horns were synchronized through acrobatic passages, and the rhythmic element had a flair and color that rivaled Mardi Gras
