Cervantes Other Side was packed just past the 11:00 PM hour as Iron Horse took the stage for this surprise show. The show would mark the first in a weekly bluegrass series at Cervantes called "Grass For That Ass," and what better way to kick it off than with bluegrass powerhouse, Iron Horse? One near flawless rock cover turned into another, with tracks from Led Zeppelin, Modest Mouse, Metallica and more, before Bridget Law (Elephant Revival) took the stage. As if folks weren't already clearly enjoying themselves, the added fiddle elevated the level of energy and dancing from those fans in attendance, kicking off their weekend early. The energy was through the roof with the crowd tightly packed from the front of the stage to the merch table at the back of the room. The event was an overwhelming success, especially for a "surprise show," reflecting once again Cervantes' solid intuition and overall ability to put together fantastic events on the fly!

If you missed last night's special show, fear not! Iron Horse returns to Cervantes tonight (Friday March 8th), for yet another MusicMarauders Presents show! Do miss this rare treat!

Buckethead: Gimmick or Guitar God?

The man is an amazing guitarist but something is not right in this world. The idea a performer who dons a KFC chicken bucket on his head for a concert has always intrigued me, and some of his side projects such as Colonel Claypool’s Bernie Bucket of Brains have been huge successes. However his performance last weekend in Fort Collins simply left me perplexed. From his robotic dancing, to his nunchuck display, to the fact the he performed with an iPod rather than a band all added to my confusion. Going into the show I was ready to be blown away, despite rumblings of disgruntled fans from the previous night’s show at The Gothic. Buckethead had had some sound issues and some missed cues in Denver but I was still trying to be positive for the show in Fort Collins.
