With the names on this recording, you know exactly how this is going to play out... incredibly! The musicians on this recording are not only some of the best within the jazz genre; they are truly among the most talented players in the world. Featuring John McLaughlin (guitar), Chick Corea (keys), Dave Holland (bass) and Jack DeJohnette (drums), Jazz fans from all over the world will tell you "it really doesn't get much better than that."

The recording eases in with loose drumming and scattered keys then intensifies with some aggressive bass. As the piece builds, the relaxed vibe quickly turns terrifying as tension grows. The tune then levels out with some fluid guitar work, but consistency bows out as quickly as it arrived with some all-over-the-place jazz that throws McLaughlin to the helm. Chick Corea reals it back in and the groove goes on...

This rare look into jazz history allows for some deep reflection and insight from some of the all-time greats. This recording is sure to shake you to the core but per usual, it's not for the faint of heart. Brace yourself.

Buckethead: Gimmick or Guitar God?

The man is an amazing guitarist but something is not right in this world. The idea a performer who dons a KFC chicken bucket on his head for a concert has always intrigued me, and some of his side projects such as Colonel Claypool’s Bernie Bucket of Brains have been huge successes. However his performance last weekend in Fort Collins simply left me perplexed. From his robotic dancing, to his nunchuck display, to the fact the he performed with an iPod rather than a band all added to my confusion. Going into the show I was ready to be blown away, despite rumblings of disgruntled fans from the previous night’s show at The Gothic. Buckethead had had some sound issues and some missed cues in Denver but I was still trying to be positive for the show in Fort Collins.
