Preview: Blackwater Music Festival


The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida which plays host to festivals such as Wanee, Bear Creek, and Magnolia Fest welcomes an addition to their summer concert series with the Blackwater Music Festival on August 26, 27, and 28, 2010. Nestled alongside the majestic Suwannee River, SOSMP creates the ideal festival atmosphere for nature and music lovers alike. The natural beauty of the park, coupled with an array of talented and diverse artists, makes this inaugural event a must-attend. The music gets started on Thursday with Perpetual Groove followed by a late night set with STS9. Friday includes performances by Michael Franti & Spearhead, G Love, Tea Leaf Green, and a late night set with The Disco Biscuits. Saturday concludes the music with sets by Zach Deputy, Particle ft. Michael Kang, JJ Grey & Mofro, and Slightly Stoopid. Closing the festival with a late night performance is Galactic ft. Cyril Neville.


Three nights of primitive camping are included in the weekend pass and single day tickets are available without camping. RV sites including Water/Electric and Full Hook-up are available at the campground and can be reserved by contacting the park’s main office at 386-364-1683. Street team and volunteer opportunities are available by Shimon Presents. Buckethead: Gimmick or Guitar God?

The man is an amazing guitarist but something is not right in this world. The idea a performer who dons a KFC chicken bucket on his head for a concert has always intrigued me, and some of his side projects such as Colonel Claypool’s Bernie Bucket of Brains have been huge successes. However his performance last weekend in Fort Collins simply left me perplexed. From his robotic dancing, to his nunchuck display, to the fact the he performed with an iPod rather than a band all added to my confusion. Nothing more specific than that, as we'll be covering a wide variety of genres."
